Because health career paths vary widely, advising and mentorship are an important part of the AHHW experience. You will be supported as you explore careers, choose courses, plan prerequisites, pursue beyond-the-classroom learning, consider time to graduation, and prepare for next steps after graduation.
How does advising support career clinical pathways?
Students pursuing clinical or professional programs need to complete specific prerequisites in order to apply for admission to professional school. Because the AHHW curriculum is interdisciplinary and flexible, you can complete the prerequisites for various professional schools while also completing AHHW major requirements.
If you would like to pursue medical, veterinary, nursing, or graduate programs, you will receive dedicated advising and course planning to complete admissions requirements, such as biochemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and physics. You should begin planning early because requirements vary by profession and institution.
How does advising support non-clinical career pathways?
If you are interested in non-clinical careers, advising can help you connect the major with your goals and explore careers beyond direct patient care, including those in public health, healthcare administration, patient advocacy, health communication, medical writing and illustration, health policy, community health, bioethics, wellness programming, nonprofit leadership, and care coordination.
